The Yellow Leaf is a performance in which a volunteer agreed to receive an unknown tattoo anywhere I determined on her body. The tattoo artist designed that tattoo around my painting series. We then auctioned her tattoo off. How can you buy something that is both intimately yours and cannot be purchased? This work engages you in a dialog about the commoditization of various intangible freedoms, namely the freedom to our own selves. The buyer left with documenta of the tattoo. Since the buyer could not get near the skin, I lay the tattoo against the glass of a copier and documented it and sold a portfolio of documentation.
A special thank you to Charliegrrl from Hidden Hand tattoo and Connie Danger
